Shavkat Mirziyoyev: what is currently known about him

The media often argue about certain facts of the biography of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, guided by vague and unreliable data, misleading the people of Uzbekistan. Let's take a closer look at the life of the Uzbek president and his political path.

Shavkat's native village

A lot of controversy arises over the origins of the president. Shavkat was born in 1957 in the Ukrainian SSR, in the Zaminsky district of the Jizzakh region. Many media outlets claim that Shavkat Mirziyoyev was actually born in Tajikistan and is Tajik by nationality, but this is not true. His paternal grandfather was born in Tajikistan; in the officially compiled biography of the president, “Uzbek” is indicated in the nationality column. At the moment, his distant relatives live in the village of Yakhtan in Tajikistan.

Early political career

After graduating from school, young Shavkat moved to Tashkent to enter the Institute of Irrigation to major in mechanical engineering. Upon completion of his studies, he decided to stay at the university and continue his scientific work as a junior researcher, later receiving the status of a candidate of technical sciences for his great contribution to development. At the end of his career in science, Shavkat was simultaneously listed as the first vice-rector at the institute, combining two positions at the same time.

Then his path in politics began:

  • At the end of the 80s, Shavkat decided to join the CPSU, and a few years later he was elected people's deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR.
  • In 1991, when the Republic of Uzbekistan gained independence, he continued to hold the post of people's deputy of the Supreme Council, but changed his party from the CPSU to the People's Democratic Party, created almost immediately after Uzbekistan declared sovereignty.
